Drew - also known as "Ben" Drew - was one of only three USAAF pilots to encounter the then new Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter during a combat mission over enemy territory. Overview
The P-51D Mustang is considered worldwide to be one of the most legendary fighter aircraft of all time! Its unique design meant that it was one of the most powerful fighter aircraft flown during World War II. The “Detroit Miss” is a historic P-51D Mustang that was flown by Urban “Ben” Drew and with which he became the first USAAF pilot to shoot down two jet-powered Messerschmitt Me 262 fighters in 1944. The E-flite UMX P-51D Mustang is an ultra-micro model of this famous aircraft, which is a warbird version of the popular UMX P-51D Voodoo. Featuring expertly tuned AS3X and optional SAFE Select technology, it is compatible with 2S and 3S batteries and offers real-time battery voltage telemetry for compatible transmitters. Due to its ultra-small size, the UMX P-51 can be flown in more places and in smaller areas than larger models! The fixed landing gear with steerable tailwheel makes taxiing, take-off and landing on smooth surfaces easier. You can also leave the landing gear dismantled and start the model by hand, thereby achieving more flight speed and vertical climb performance.
